Mechancial Ability Tests
Mechanical reasoning tests are often used to assess skills required for those in technical roles that require a level of mechanical understanding and reasoning.
These are also used as tools to identify apprentices who have a natural ability to go into trades such as machine operators, electrical technicians and process operators. Higher level test may be useful when recruiting for mechanics, pilots, or engineers.
Mechanical Understanding (PPM)
The PPM Mechanical Understanding test is performance instrument that assess an individual's understanding of basic mechanical principles. This assessment measures an individual's mechanical aptitude, but it is not greatly influenced by prior experience or training.
This test is comprised of 32 multiple choice items and has an 8 minute time limit. This can be administered online and in an unsupervised setting. This is designed for entry Level individual contributor roles in manufacturing and maintenance.
Mechanical Aptitude Test
The Mechanical Aptitude Test is an assessment of a job candidate’s ability to learn and perform production and maintenance job activities. The test stimuli were created to be both contemporary and free of reference to rural/urban and gender-related content.
The Mechanical Aptitude Test measures the following knowledge areas:
- Household Objects
- Work-Production and Maintenance
- School-Science and Physics
- Power Tools
This is designed for entry Level individual contributor roles in manufacturing and maintenance.
Developed to assess mechanical aptitude, it is suitable for selection and is comprised of 36 multiple choice items with a time limit of 20 minutes. This can be administered online and in an unsupervised setting.
SHL Verify Mechanical Comprehension
Relevant to many technical roles, the Mechanical Comprehension test is designed to measure a candidate’s understanding of basic mechanical principles and their application to devices such as pulleys, gears and levers.
Typically used for production, manufacturing or engineering-related recruitment or development, the test is often deployed to assess school leaver suitability for modern apprenticeship schemes, the practical application abilities of science and technology graduates or those with work experience looking to move to a technical role. This test can be administered online and is timed for 10 minutes.
SHL Verify Spatial Ability
SHL Verify Spatial Ability is an assessment used for job candidates applying to all job levels that require spatial ability. The Spatial Ability assessment is completely non-verbal and features only shapes and figures. Sample tasks for jobs that may require spatial ability include, but are not limited to planning or visualising a sequence of operations used to test mechanical equipment, adjusting and repairing equipment, and monitoring the loading and discharging of people or cargo. Potential job titles that use this solution are Mechanics, Pilots, or Engineers. This test can be administered online and is timed for 25 minutes.
